A Metropolitan Police officer who compared one of his black colleagues to a monkey has been sacked for gross misconduct.
Constable Kevin Hughes was cleared of racially aggravated offences in November before the matter was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
Chief magistrate Howard Riddle said that while PC Hughes’s language was ‘unacceptable and offensive’, it did not amount to a criminal offence.
Commander Allan Gibson, from the Directorate of Professional Standards, said PC Hughes ‘has now been dismissed from the Metropolitan Police Service’.
